Darien,
Private Home
A farmhouse in Darien, Connecticut. A household with young children, furniture collected over the years — antique, vintage, modern. The brief was to make it all belong.

We started with what the family already had — a mix of antique, vintage, and modern pieces gathered over time — and worked outward from there, editing carefully and adding only where it mattered. The result is a home that feels personal without being precious, and livable in the way that actually counts when you have young children.
In the family room, a large charcoal velvet sectional anchors the space — generous enough for a family evening, soft enough for a Sunday morning. A cream wool noodle rug underneath, a vintage round glass and chrome coffee table above it, a vintage floor lamp pulled in for reading. The art is fun and modern. It is the kind of room that quietly holds a household together.
The kitchen centers on a vintage French farm cabinet painted in Greek green — the piece that gives the room its character. An antique English farm table paired with vintage chrome and leather chairs creates a breakfast corner that moves between eras without calling attention to it. Above, an unusual chrome fixture with dangling glass pegs catches the light.
In the dining room, a crack in the original brick chimney became an opportunity. We covered it with vintage brick veneer and light beige grout — indistinguishable from the original fireplace beside it. Gold grass cloth on the walls adds warmth and draws the room in. A long dining table seating eight, black velvet chairs, a wooden credenza with decorative pulls, and an oil painting in warm orange and brown above it. A decorative bubble light ceiling fixture where the ceiling height ruled out a pendant.
Adjacent to the dining room, the wet bar was rebuilt for how the family actually entertains. Two wine fridges flank a central storage run; a taupe Kohler cast iron bar sink sits in the quartz countertop. Handmade white bronze pulls on the cabinet doors, walls and trim in a matching muted taupe, and colored sphere pendants hung at alternate heights.
The living room was painted in a deep, enveloping brown — a counterpoint to the lighter spaces in the house. White sofas and an orange upholstered chair sit with a wood coffee table topped in antique mirror, on a beige hide. Two metal faux-leather chairs and a pair of white metal coffee tables form a second, quieter seating arrangement alongside.
In the primary bedroom, everything slows down. An elegant muted gray on the walls, a vintage sunburst mirror above the king-size bed, and a large standing wooden mirror across the room. Round wood bedside tables carry mid-century glass table lamps; a vintage chandelier with dangling glass pegs hangs above — the kind of detail that rewards a second look.
